AS9100 is an international standard that includes the ISO 9001 quality management system.   Certification can be attained by companies specializing in the supply of equipment, aircraft accessory supply, airport and airline operations, spares supply and maintenance, flight operations, cargo handling, or other organizations interested in certification. It specifies requirements for a quality management system where an organization: a) needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that conforms to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system. An increasing number of major aerospace contractors are now requiring the use of AS9100 by their supply chain, which is propelling its use throughout the industry. AS 9100 certification is encouraged for suppliers of Boeing, Rolls Royce Allison, GEAE, NASA, Honeywell and many others. By providing this visible commitment to your customers, you increase their confidence in your company and your product or service.

AS9110 is an international standard that includes the ISO 9001 quality management system requirements and specifies additional aviation maintenance industry requirements, definitions and notes. These requirements are complementary (not alternative) to contractual and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.  The AS9110 standard is based on AS9100 but adds specific requirements that are critical for the maintenance of commercial, private, and military aircrafts. This standard defines the quality system requirements and offers additional comprehensive requirements/criteria for overhaul facilities and the maintenance repair for the aircraft industry at all levels of the MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) process. It is tailored for organizations with national airworthiness authority (NAA) repair station certification, but is also suitable for non-certificated organizations including those that provide maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for military aviation products. Companies whose primary business is providing maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for aviation sector products. It is also intended to be used by organizations with maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations that operate autonomously, or that are substantially different from their manufacturing operations.

AA Rocket WebAS9120 is an international standard that includes the ISO 9001 quality management system requirements and specifies additional aviation, space and defense distributor industry requirements, definitions and notes. These requirements are complementary (not alternative) to contractual and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.  The AS9120 Standard is the requirements for a Quality Management System based on AS9100 which adds 100+ additional requirements that are specific to distributors who carry aircraft components like, fasteners, electronics, gaskets, etc. It helps ensure that they handle the materials properly and track the part from OEM to customer. AS9120 was developed for pass-through distributors of aerospace items and addresses chain of custody, traceability, control and availability of records.

Companies that procure parts, materials and assemblies and sells these products to a customer in the aviation, space and defense industries. This includes organizations that procure products and split them into smaller quantities.  This standard is not intended for organizations that rework or repair products. Organizations that perform work that affect or could affect product characteristics or conformity should use AS9100 or another general quality management system standard.  The standard would be applicable for organizations that resell, distribute, and warehouse parts found in aircraft and other aerospace components. Value-added distributors would NOT be included for the standard to due to customer-product changes.

The effective implementation of these standards gives your company the great competitive advantage. You demonstrate the discipline to identify, understand and fully implement your customers’ needs, requirements, and expectations as well as drive down waste and production costs, while providing the quality and safe products that your customers demand. This allows you to increase your customers’ satisfaction, leading to increased demand and market share. For more information visit: www.sae.org/iaqg
